What the dMAT actually tests
Three subtests of general cognitive skill, then a subject module. None of it needs advanced maths. It rewards speed, accuracy and not falling for the obvious-but-wrong option, exactly what the free mock trains.
Figure Sequences
Spot the rule inside a row of figures, a rotation, a change of shape or shading, a moving dot, then pick the figure that comes next.
Mathematical Equations
Short equations and word problems solved without a calculator. Clean arithmetic, order of operations and simple algebra under a tight clock.
Latin Squares
Complete a grid where each symbol appears once in every row and column. A logic puzzle that rewards checking the row and the column together.
Applied knowledge
Items in your field such as Boolean logic, matrices and data types. Where clean basics and quick reasoning pay off.
How it is scored
There is no pass mark. Your correct answers convert to a dMAT score on a 0 to 200 scale with a mean of 100, and you also get a percentile rank showing how you did against everyone else. Universities decide individually how much weight to give it, so a stronger score is a real advantage for competitive programmes even without a hard bar.
Who needs it, and when
From 2026 the dMAT becomes part of the APS documentation for Indian graduates. Applying for Summer Semester 2027 or later means you need it, taken with the subject module. It does not replace your APS certificate; it is an additional element in the same process. Winter 2026/27 applicants are not affected.
Dates, fee and test centres
The dMAT is offered at test centres in India and Nepal, and you register through the g.a.s.t. portal. The exact fee, current test dates and the live list of centres are set by g.a.s.t. and can change between cycles. Widely reported figures put the fee at around €150, but we will not print a date or a price we cannot stand behind, so confirm the current details on the official portal before you plan.

What is the dMAT and who needs it?
The dMAT (Digital Master Test) is an academic aptitude test run by g.a.s.t., developed with DAAD support. From 2026 it becomes part of the APS documentation for Indian graduates, and applicants targeting the Summer Semester 2027 intake (or later) need it. Winter 2026/27 applicants are not affected, because the first certificates only arrive around October 2026.
Are these real dMAT exam questions?
No, and be careful of anyone who claims they are. The first dMAT sits in 2026, so no past papers exist. These are original practice questions built to the official g.a.s.t. format: the same areas, single-choice style and timed pressure. Every question has a full worked solution.
How is the dMAT structured?
It has two parts. The Core Module has three subtests of general cognitive skills: Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares. The Subject Module tests applied knowledge in your field. The official page gives a total of about three and a half hours with a break between modules. It is digital, single-choice and in English.
Is there a passing score for the dMAT?
No. The official page states there is no cutoff. Your result is reported as a percentile rank plus a dMAT score on a 0 to 200 scale with a mean of 100, and each university decides how to use it. A stronger result still helps you stand out for competitive programmes, so it is worth preparing seriously.
How much does the dMAT cost and where can I take it?

How should I prepare for it?
Do full sections under the real time limit, review every question you get wrong with a worked solution, and drill the areas where you are slowest. Figure Sequences and Latin Squares reward pattern recognition and speed; the Subject Module rewards clean basics in Boolean logic, matrices and data types.
